It was the Hour of Code week at Holy Trinity!

The week of December 5 was a national Hour of Code week. All Holy Trinity students took part in this week of coding during their technology classes. DK learned about patterns and also did an 'unplugged' coding game moving a paper "flurb" that would move squares to catch an apple. This gave them a hands on/large group approach to coding prior to experiencing it on the computer. Grades K-2 played Angry Birds, learning how to get the angry bird to the pig. The students noticed that there were many different solutions to get to the pig and that all were correct. Grade 3-7 were able to choose their coding activity on the website in the "Hour of Code" section. The website we used was Code.org. Some of the 7th graders also chose to work on Scratch.mit.edu. This was also a coding option for them. Many students found it challenging but I let them know that challenge is a great way to learn. I also liked hearing how some students would ask their neighbor next to them for suggestions if they were stuck on a level. I loved seeing that type of collaboration instead of just always raising their hand and asking me for help. It was a fun and fantastic week in the computer lab!
